The Republican Party ready for Trump in jail during nomination
The Republican National Committee (RNC) is planning for the possibility of former President Trump, the GOP presumptive nominee, being jailed during the national convention, the party's chair said on Tuesday.
Trump has vowed to appeal the verdict, and seems unlikely to face a jail term during such an appeal. But the RNC wants to be prepared as it could be an embarrassment. RNC's co-chair Lara Trump similarly mentioned on Sunday that the RNC needs to be "ready for anything" in regard to Trump, but she stated the committee will have 'several plans' in place to pivot to as the convention nears.
The former president wants mega donor Miriam Adelson’s money, but in return she wants Israeli sovereignty over West Bank. Though Trump has been maintaining a lead in the polls over President Joe Biden for seven months, reports are growing of a financial panic.
Trump trails Biden in fundraising, and spending, much of the donations go to a battery of lawyers in four criminal cases. Big donors are finding it hard to open their checkbooks, and insist that the money be directed to the political campaign rather than spent on his personal legal expenses.
